5 years old and dry rotted that bad? I stupidly punctured a tire a week ago so needed to mount the spare. Which was as old as the car, so 26 years old. It even had some kind of vintage tread pattern. It was not dry rotted at all.

Proper storage means a lot, i’ve run 14 year old tyres that had no dry rot showing, but after a year the carcass let go in 2 of them.

Also had a pair of Contisports onanother car for storage, but one got flat and now there’s cracks like this in the sidewall where it was bulging :(

I realize that the 26 year old tire should be replaced as soon as possible as it’s rather dangerous due to being hard as a rock, but it was a tire mounted under the car, not inside the boot. For 26 years. It not being dryrotted and those 5 year old tires above being way past their expiry date is strange to me. The 26 year old Michelin was in the UK though, so a temperate climate. I guess the 5 year old tire is in a hot climate?

My son’s ‘03 Accord coupe, but it’s a popular size for steel rims (the alloys jump up to R16s or R17s for the Accord)

My son’s ‘03 Accord coupe. He bought it with those tires on it, so I’m not sure how they got so bad in only 5 years, but it was a S.Carolina car, so it may have seen a lot of sun. Mis-matched front and rear, but I think the one in the pic was a Kelly tire.

It’s an ‘03 Accord Coupe, so it’s only a 3,000 lb car (and no tow hitch), so 94H is reasonable. I replaced the worn tires with GOODYEAR ASSURANCE COMFORTRED TOURING tires, same size and load/speed rating. The ride and handling is significantly improved!

Must be Goodyears...........

I wouldn’t sweat it, my friend has been letting his wife cart their kid around on tires worse than this for about 6 months now....

Some tyres are also very prone to dry rotting/other issues, i can’t remember which model but when browsing for tyres earliere i found somebody who said that specific model kept dry-rotting in the sidewall within a few years, despite being “new”. Could also be harsh climate, like baking in the sun constantly as you’re onto.

Are you repairing that thing? It’s got no tread...
